Glass ceilings, handpicked florals, and a love story that was always going to end up here.

When I got an inquiry for a Valentine's Day wedding, I already knew it was going to be something special. How CUTE would it be to have your anniversary fall on Valentine's Day every single year?

Every piece of Shelby and Arthur's day felt thoughtful, personal, and so them. Their February wedding at Sanctuary Lexington was the kind of celebration that makes you stop and think, "yep, this is exactly how a love story should feel." From the sweetest details to the people surrounding them, everything tied back to who they are as a couple and what they love. We got to be there for all of it, and we're honestly still not over it.

About Shelby + Arthur

Shelby and Arthur's story started in March of 2019. They made it through the early stretch of their relationship during Covid, spending a lot of time outside and on the golf course together. In June 2021 they moved into their first apartment together in Old Louisville, and a year later made the cross-country drive to move Arthur to Dallas. Long distance is a real test, and they passed it.

Shelby went on to tackle medical school while Arthur was in Texas, and when she passed her first medical board exam, they celebrated the way it deserved: with a trip to Italy. Arthur proposed on December 20, 2024, and they chose February 14th, 2026 to get married. Valentine's Day. Because of course they did.

Sanctuary is one of those spaces that earns its reputation the second you walk through the door. It's a small, design-forward event venue right in the heart of Lexington with a glass-roofed atrium that fills the space with natural light. On a February wedding day, it was perfection.

We used the space in three different ways throughout the day: the ceremony in the atrium, cocktail hour in the surrounding space, and then a full flip to a candlelit reception to close out the night.

Sanctuary holds around 100 guests, which is such a sweet spot for couples who want their wedding to feel personal and connected rather than produced. Nothing felt crowded or rushed. People could actually settle in, have real conversations, and enjoy the day.

The night before, Shelby and Arthur hosted their rehearsal dinner right at the venue: an intimate Italian-themed dinner with tables lined in red roses. It set the most perfect tone for everything that followed.

The Ceremony: Walking into the ceremony space that morning was genuinely stunning. Events by Design had done a simple, elegant draping setup throughout the atrium that felt soft and intentional without being overdone. The aisles were lined with the same red roses that had dressed the rehearsal dinner tables the night before.

The Reception: After cocktail hour, the atrium was fully transformed. Darae and Friends were incredible in helping execute the flip, and the result was exactly what you'd want a Valentine's Day evening to feel like: candlelight everywhere as the night carried on, a corner head table, and rounds spread throughout the space. It felt intimate and celebratory at the same time.
